Sometimes due to difficult circumstances families break down and there is no-one to provide the support and wisdom all young people need to become successful parents. Young women who fall pregnant without the support they need often drop out of school, which can leave them vulnerable to exploitation.
Early marriages and pregnancies put further pressure on young women who often have not had access to reproductive health education. With few resources and no voice in the community the future economic prospects for these young women and their children can be bleak.
The Rainbow Young Mothers’ project is a sustainable self-help group where young mothers can come and share experiences and learn from each other. This is a place they can access healthcare and learn about early years development, while making friends who can help each other through the emotional and social difficulties of bringing up and providing for young children and explore practical options.
Using a Trauma-Informed Approach and working together, we create a safe space to empower young mothers to:
- Build confidence, self-esteem, and wellbeing.
- Be healthy and eat healthily for both parent and child.
- Attend education and training.
- Develop their parenting skills.
- Increase employability and future financial stability.
- Create lasting relationships with others.
- Participate in the local community.
- Enjoy life.
- To flourish!
